Increasing Interpersonal Connection to "Treat" Problematic Substance Use: Evaluation of a Faith-Community Rides Program

Join us for Heterodox Academy’s Colloquium Series, a virtual seminar series designed to highlight the scholarship and thought leadership emerging from our community.

This colloquium will feature Andrea Clements, Professor of Experimental Psychology at East Tennessee State University, presenting her research on substance abuse treatment through interpersonal relationship building.

Increasing Interpersonal Connection to "Treat" Problematic Substance Use: Evaluation of a Faith-Community Rides Program

Dr. Clements will report on the evaluation of a project that equips and mobilizes a volunteer workforce from the faith community to provide transportation and intentionally develop supportive relationships with recently incarcerated individuals with substance use histories. This investigation contributes to her research into whether increasing interpersonal connection can be used as a treatment for problematic substance use.

This colloquium, offered exclusively to HxA members on Wednesday, October 28 from 4:00 - 5:00 PM ET, will include time for audience discussion and Q&A. You'll hear Andrea Clements share her insight on the role relationships can play in addressing problematic substance use, and get the chance to bring your own questions to the conversation.
