Special Issue on Normative Scientific Conflicts: Welcoming Contributions!

Dear colleagues,

We invite you to submit contributions to our special issue, "Normative Scientific Conflicts," in the journal Theory & Society: https://link.springer.com/collections/ajjejhjfge.

With this special issue, we aim to foster thoughtful and civil academic discussions regarding ongoing normative and cultural conflicts within science and higher education. Contributors are encouraged to engage critically yet constructively, providing nuanced analyses that consider alternative perspectives.

Potential topics for submissions include, but are not limited to: open science, peer review, DEI, suppressing scholarship for harm concerns, preprints, institutional neutrality, social media behavior, standardized testing, citation justice, misinformation control, the role of for profit organizations (e.g., publishers) in science, trigger warnings, petitioning, philosophy of science norms, etc. However, other topics are welcome, too.

We welcome empirical studies, theoretical contributions, review articles, and perspective pieces. Submissions should be collaborative where possible, and we particularly encourage contributions involving authors with diverse or contrasting viewpoints. Co-authored papers, including those co-authored with early-career scholars, are highly valued.

Submission deadline: May 31 (flexibility upon request).

Please feel free to circulate this invitation to colleagues who might provide valuable, diverse viewpoints.

Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,

~ Cory and Maja
