University of Virginia

Heterodox Academy at University of Virginia is motivated by a desire to improve the quality of research and education at UVA by increasing open inquiry, viewpoint diversity, and constructive disagreement.
Heterodox Academy at the University of Virginia is made up of over 40 faculty members and administrators. The co-chairs of HxA at UVA will grow the Campus Community through monthly meetings with featured speakers presenting on topics related to issues facing higher education. We will also sponsor and co-sponsor events that align with the HxA Way.
In line with the mission of HxA, we are motivated by a desire to improve the quality of research and education at UVA by increasing open inquiry, viewpoint diversity, and constructive disagreement among faculty, students, and administrators.
Before being named a HxA Campus Community, we held several “Heterodox Happy Hours” in collaboration with Think Again @ UVA and The Blue Ridge Center, founded to help UVA students thrive through our commitment to free speech, viewpoint diversity, intellectual humility, and critical thinking.
Attendees of those gatherings formed the nucleus of our new Heterodox ‘Hoos campus community, and we hope to recruit more broadly this fall among faculty— with a longer term goal of establishing a student component over the next year or so.
